Seattle Seahawks trade for Sam Howell to back up Geno Smith | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

  1. Dumbest take ever. They literally signed Geno to an extension and paid him. Of course they’re going to bring in other QBs. Geno is not the future and I’m sure he knows that. You NEED a backup QB

  2. Geno will be the starter, but hopefully he is bad and they roll with Howell. He excels and we never have to watch Geno again. For the life of me, I do not understand why hawks fans love him. They can do so much better

  3. MIKE MCDONALD IS 36 YEARS OLD HE DOES NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH 33 YEAR OLD GENO SMITH. MIKE MCDONALD WANTS A QUARTERBACK IN HIS 20S , THAT WILL RESPECT HIM. WHY WOULD GENO RESPECT A 36 YEAR OLD COACH WHO NEVER PLAYED COLLEGE OR PRO FOOTBALL

  4. Howell is a serviceable career backup at best, but not a franchise qb caliber player. He is not a long term answer by any means, so they will have to draft a qb next year I guess.

  5. As a Seattle fan I'm okay with this trade. Either Howell will be an adequate backup or it turns out he is starting caliber and takes the job at some point. It's not like they traded 3 #1 picks for him. Besides, Howell took an absolute beating last year and never seemed to give up. As for Smith, he's been pretty good but he's absolutely not elite level so yeah, bring on competition and let the best QB win.

  6. Athletes usually need competition. People usually need to be a little uncomfortable to push themselves. Not all, but it usually improves the situation, from my experience.

  7. This chick has zero idea what she’s talking about … there was no competition in 2023… Lock barely got a chance in 2022 … Geno was the starter … why Lock left .. he wasn’t beating out Geno ..

  8. Call me a dreamer if you must, but Penix and Grubb make sense. Penix is older and more mature, maybe less experienced at the pro level but it could be an interesting play. If Pete leaves behind one thing, it's always comPete.

  9. WTF are you guys on. lol Where they supposed to go with one QB this year and not bring anyone in? I don't thing JS could have been more clear…do you remember when RW came in? He took the job…could happen again. Anything could happen again. If they draft a guy it's a slight on Geno. If they trade for SH it's a slight on Geno. 1 QB it is…smart move…Geno will feel more supported! Good lord. lolololol

  10. Since 2011, only 11 of 38 QB's drafted in 1st rd, got a 2nd contract. It's a failure rate of 71%. Of 1909 games started, only 50% led to wins. GM J.Schneider has only drafted 1 QB, in days 1 or 2, (future, HoF Russ Wilson in 3rd rd). JS tried to draft Mahomes & J.Allen but got traded out by Chiefs & Bills. JS is an expert on QB's, that means Howell will be 12s future QB after learning from Geno Smith who is a great pro & great teacher, similar to late rd Tom Brady sitting behind a 1st rd veteran & learning well. Comm's also did well to get a day 2 pick. It's a win-win for both teams in the short term.
But in the long term. Seahawks usually win. They have had to contend with the 2 top offensive minds in McVey & Kyle. & the Co-GOAT DT in ADonald & the most loaded roster in 49s. Yet they still compete & 12s always enter x-mas thinking they can win an SB. This is with the worst ranked iOL in NFL & no run D when Brooks Adams Diggs Nwoso Mone ended up on IR.
Final stats = Howell is better than Josh Allen after 18 games w same TDs but 7 less INT's.
Geno is lucky. Mr. unlucky turned to humble prayer & became luckiest NFL QB & PFF ranked him top 7 QB in 2022 & 11 in 2023 behind an awful OL. He's gonna have his first good OL in 2024.
    AD retired.
    Ariks gone.
The Seahawk comeback kings are brewing a new dynasty & not just nice coffee.
    The 12s love Florio – Peter King – Charleze – Simms & Eisen. So C'mon pundit co-kings, become 12s & have the Navy & Lime as yo 2nd team, it's a magical club. UK & Europe's favourites.

  11. Ok this is stupid 😂 Seattle needed a back up regardless, and saying Seattle doesn't know if Geno is the guy is dumb, that's why they have him a contract?? Geno has been better then most it's the team n shitty coaching last season.

  12. The bears should take notes on this trade just trade a guy for whatever you can get Justin Fields isn't worth more than Sam Howelll. Say what you want about Sam Howell but at least he can throw the ball well Justin Fields can't. Seahawks pull off another great trade what a great organization they have up there in Seattle.

  13. No video for the important Seahawks offseason signings like Jerome Baker or Tyrel Dodson. Just for the backup QB that probably won’t play a rep next season but ok lol

  14. Great move. If you actually block for Sam you can win. He got sacked in DC. When they blocked he Wa top quality. The team set a record for sacks. Not his fault. Happy for him to be heading to Seattle.

  15. The biggest problem with this team and its organization is they always think they are better than what they really are. Geno Smith has done everything this team has asked him to do from day 1, since he been in the building. Mediocre team before he got there and under achieved on defense since the LOB broke up. Sam Howell not winning you mire than 4 to 5 ganes and would be a far worse option than sticking with your 2 consecutive year pro bowl selection. It is really easy to put up big numbers on awful defensive teams. Geno is the clear starter and everyone knows this. Howell can learn a lot and become a great qb once he gets some real veteran leadership from a true veteran like Geno. Can Geno get some dam respect geez!

  16. Geno called Sam a BALLER not out of concern for his status as qb1 but rather out of respect for him as a supremely talented football player.
Howell will start IF he controls the turnovers; he is a star in the making with this talent on offense!

  17. Charean's speculation as to how Geno feels about other QB's is certainly valid, however, this is not a buffet first come first serve situation. Whomever is the better QB should get the job. Wins…it all boils down to wins. Geno had more last year than Sam, but Geno was not playing for the Redskins.

  18. The Geno disrespect is real from these talking heads. Geno will start but they obviously like Howell as a prospect. Let Mike MacDonald mold Howell into the QB he needs
