The Oakland A’s will drop the city from their team name and go by the ‘Athletics’ next season until their move to Las Vegas.
On Thursday, the organization confirmed that the team will move out of the Bay Area in 2025 and temporarily reside in Sacramento. Their detour to the state capital will stretch to at least the 2027 season.
A spokesperson from the organization told TMZ that the team will not carry Sacramento’s name despite spending several seasons in Sac-Town.
The team will add ‘Las Vegas’ to their name once they move into their $1.5 billion stadium in Sin City.
A date for their relocation has yet to be cemented. However, team officials acknowledged that 2028 may be realistic, allowing their new home to get its finishing touches while the team continues to reside in Sacramento.
