Tyson is a fool. Doesn't seem to realize that so-called science has been totally corrupted by big money. That's why there is the replication crisis; 70% of biomedical studies cannot be replicated. No one should "trust" science – 'cause it ain't science anymore, especially "medical science." Odd how we're the sickest nation in the world and pay the most for healthcare, yet have the most vaxxes and pharma drugs. Our health care is globally ranked around 70th for patient outcomes. But to be fair, we do have the most profitable healthcare in the world. We can be proud of that.

I don't think it is a question for most 'will they listen to scientists', as I believe most people do believe what science proves. However, scientists, some, can be bought and told to push an agenda. Truth gets mixed with a narrative which may be misleading. Then the layperson, must seek the truth for themselves, which can be an uphill battle.
