Meares gives the Tillies their ticket
The Matildas have been given their official ticket to Paris 2024 by Australian Olympic great and cycling great Anna Meares.
They accepted the ticket away from their special Matildas stage, as that is from Football Australia, not the Australian Olympic Committee.
Now they have moved over to the FA’s stage and put on their winners t-shirts.
Matildas, fans soaking it up
By Carla Jaeger
A dubstep remix of the unofficial Australian anthem, Land Down Under, is playing over the speakers here as the Matildas huddle on the pitch celebrating their victory.
Suffice to say, the crowd is very, very pleased.
Oui oui!
Fans are lapping it up
The fans are waiting around to see the Matildas acknowledged as booking their place at the Olympics.
There will be a presentation from the AOC shortly while Uzbekistan’s players and staff are still shaking hands and taking in the scenes – they were soundly beaten tonight but will bounce back from this disappointment.
The Matildas have formed their traditional post match cycle and are talking through the win.
The Matildas are going to Paris
The Matildas will be going to Paris 2024 after completing two wins over the two legs of their qualifier against Uzbekistan.
Sadly, the Uzbeks will have to wait another four years to qualify for their first Olympics in women’s soccer but they have battled hard against a team with much more accomplished players and many more World Cup and Olympic campaigns.
Tonight’s 10-0 win made sure of their progression, now the chase for a medal begins.
GOAL: Make it 10
Amy Sayer has topped off the night with a goal in the 93rd minute.
It was a tap in from close range.
“Blow the whistle,” yelled a young kid from the crowd.
Almost at 90 minutes
The game has very much gone flat although Grant had a shot close to goal cannon off the legs of the keeper.
The players know it is over, the only question is how much injury time will be played. I’d guess between five and seven minutes.
Then we will bring you coverage of the post match celebrations and comments from the pressers.
AUS 9, UZB 0 after 90 minutes.
A second goalkeeper injury
The Uzbekistan backup keeper was collected late on the foot and went down to the ground.
She was in some pain and received treatment but was able to play on.
We could have, otherwise, seen the very unusual situation of a team using three different goalkeepers in one match.
The end is almost here for this match.
AUS 9, UZB 0 after 81 mins.
Official crowd 54,120
Tonight match has drawn a crowd of 54,120 fans.
It is the 12th-straight sellout for Matildas home internationals.
What a spectacular evening.
GOAL: Raso makes it nine
Hayley Raso has yet another goal in Melbourne and she blows the smoke off her, imaginary, pistols in celebration.
Lovely strike after the ball was dummied so it would roll into her path.
AUS 9, UZB 0 after 69 mins.
Fowler moving up the ranks
Mary Fowler is the second-youngest player to reach 50 games for the Matildas according to Australian soccer historian Andrew Howe.
