As a hispanic person, I don't care what I am called lol. Latinx is just supposed to be the same as Latino/Latina. Basically the x just stands in for the "a" and "o". I dont think its offensive at all, but i think to save the trouble of guessing someone's gender (or if they don't have gender at all), it is safer to just say hispanic
The 'LatinX' thing isn't a push for changing how we talk about the Hispanic/Latin communities as a whole though – binary individuals can still use Latino or Latina if they want.
The addition of the term only started so that nonbinary Hispanic/Latin individuals could have a neutral option since their language is gendered out the ass. Somehow that got blown into the conversation of trying to change all the terms to neutral terms only, which isn't the case – it's only to give more options for LGBT+ people. And it's not "yt people shit" either since it started in the Latin community, the "X" was just like a placeholder in writing, and wasn't actually supposed to be used in spoken language. Lol
Since then, I believe the consensus of the nonbinary Hispanic/Latin communities has opted for a different term, Latine, as it's more inline with their language structure and since LatinX was causing so many issues at large, especially between US native groups and others. Latine is something that they have chosen. There are even advocacy groups in the Latin Americas that are trying to spread awareness for nonbinary individuals and nonbinary language for them so that it's an option.
This has been the conversations that I have seen from nonbinary Latine in poc LGBT+ groups though.
I haven't seen anyone there say that Latino or Latina people need to change their personal preference.
Ahhhhh yes, America and their school shootings……jezus man…for a country so large and well known….things sure are messed up.
Good lord, are we really supposed to have a term for every one of the millions of different nationalities and each sub category? And then going to get pissed when someone doesn't know that because you're from a small town in south America that was originally settled by a group of Dutch German settlers in the 1300s, you don't consider yourself to be Latin American, and prefer to be called Latin Germutchan and anything else is racist and offensive. Give me a break. How about I call you by your name, and will do my best to not be offensive if the need to refer to your nationality arises, if you promise to not throw a tantrum if I don't get it exactly right. Sound fair? No? You just want a reason to be pissed, any reason at all? Fair enough.
How about actually holding criminally responsible, the kids and teens that are the overwhelming source of the feelings of self hatred, no self esteem, extreme depression and suicidal thoughts that are very often the cause of these horrific attacks. The bullies who Target and ruthlessly attack an individual for no reason at all, publicly shaming and belittling them in front of classmates, just to make themselves feel better about their perceived insecurities, despite being popular and having friends, which often these people are so isolated as a result of the bullying. Or how about the kids who cry crocodile tears for the camera, saying they can't understand why anyone would do this, as if they hadn't stood there watching and laughing along with the crowd, as the kid was picked on and made fun, for simply trying to get to his or her next class unnoticed. Saying nothing, no one speaking up until the unthinkable happens, except it's become so common that it's not so unthinkable anymore. As a victim of ruthless bullying, I don't condone these actions but can certainly sympathize with the thoughts and feelings that I can easily see leading someone down this tragic path. And even though I'm 36 years old now, I still fight through the feelings of worthlessness and self loathing that are the byproducts of 4 years of non stop bullying and trying to figure out what was so wrong with me, that made me deserving of such unyielding and unprovoked hated. That's who we should be holding accountable, not the parents who probably had no clue what their child was feeling because the child went out of their way to make sure their parents never found out how much of a "loser" they were, fearing they would be ashamed of them.
$65 for a Hoodie!! And ur talking shit about Chanel??!?
As someone who was laid off the first day back to the office after new year 2021. I'd rather have been laid off a bit before Christmas 2020. Would've stopped me from splurging with the money I got from Christmas…
The mom telling the kid she's not mad but he's gotta learn not to get caught tells me everything I need to know 😡🤬😡🤬
"I'm laying off 15% of the company. Because 4% of the company are slackers." Yeah, that tracks.
Probably an unpopular opinion, seeing how others here are bashing the CEO guy. While I agree he's most likely trying to make the books look good to attract investors to make the company grow: if his claim holds up and people worked 2 hours and clocked 8, they more than deserve to be fired. If I pay you for 8 phones and you give me 2 you can get royally fucked. Plus, people like this are the reason that most of us are still not trusted to work from home, even if we can prove that our productivity skyrockets in a "new work" context. I know a job's a job, and getting a bonus of 25 million (or anywhere above 2% of that) is pure capitalist bullshittery. But clocking a full day to spend most your time on Youtube isn't helping anyone either.
It isn't the firing employees for me, as that happens everyday and we don't know the ins and outs of why. Its the how he has done it, he should have HR with him and speak with each person individually or at least set up some type of proper meeting with much smaller groups. This was like an x factor audition and to then play with people talking about how emotional he is ,is very very tone deaf
Man. No wonder that kid did what he did. Sounds like he had some pretty crappy parents…can’t imagine his home life was very stable…
this child is getting more punishment than Kyle were was this when kyle killed people?
Yeah the parents should be punished
After hearing all the details while the parents absolutely should be charged I think some charges can go to the school district as well. All of the signs were reported and the parents didn't care. That's fine, the parents suck and will hopefully be dealt with accordingly. Why was there nothing else the school district could do? Expel him for multiple warning signs of school shooting, make a psych evaluation mandatory before he can return to the district, anything besides shrugging and saying if the parents don't care we don't care. I don't know what the right answer is but anything would have been better than the nothing that was done. Although I don't blame the school for being surprised that the parents bought him a gun.
…and tornadoes destroy the Midwest while DeFranco is out.
I'm half Caribbean and my boyfriend is full Mexican, and neither of us use "Latinx". It actually bothers him a lot more than it bothers me, and he's even mentioned that it doesn't verbally make sense. I'm in the same boat as Phil where I'd be more than happy to oblige when people want to be referred to in a specific way, but I genuinely don't know anyone who uses "Latinx". I don't even know… how they would — as someone with a literature degree.
Idk I think with advent calenders the appeal is you get back more than the value you spent on it. Yeah Chanel stuff is and always will be wildy overpriced, but in order to even "break even" with chanels advent calender I think you'd have to ascribe a value of $50? $75? For stickers and paperweights (don't come for my math I did none). Even for overpriced luxury brands…thats a huge markup for the name and while I would never buy it I understand why people are feeling ripped off, esp in comparison to other luxury advent calendars
i have never heard anybody complain about Latinx before…like…before using the letter "e" for neutrality we've been using x and @ in writing
i'm saying this from a lain american country, but i guess this is mostly for people in the US
but if you call them hispanic then what happens to brazilian people? and why is it important to specify it in a form? i don't understand how it could be relevant (asking out of ignorance)
Um are we just going to go right past… #jakepaul "vaginitis" …wtf
The most deadly school shooting…THIS YEAR. And how is their culpability even a matter of debate, they bought a gun FOR A CHILD.
Latinx isn't "some white people sh*t". It was coined by BIOPIC trans ppl IN Latin America in the 90s or earlier. It's understandable that some Hispanics don't want to be referred to as Latinx, but it isn't surprising that they're offended by it since most Hispanics, especially in the US, are fiercely religious and don't care at all about LGBTQIA inclusivity.
If someone calls me Latinx or asks me what my pronouns are they’re gonna get an earful. People talk about it being about respect like it isn’t disrespectful to imply someone isn’t the gender they are to cater to .5% of the population. Trans people deserve love and respect but this is fucked up.
In my opinion all advent calendars are bullshit. If your dumb enough to pay $800 or whatever the Chanel one is that’s on you. Everything Chanel sells is overpriced. That’s their thing.
I am Hispanic/Latino and I absolutely hate the term latinx. I don’t know a single person in my family or friends that use that term. Out of all the people I know 100% of Hispanics or Latinos prefer not to be called by latinx.
What's the problem with Latin? You can use Latino or Latine (La-tee-nay) for neutral. The x, in my opinion, comes from white people judging our language to not be neutral enough.
Fu#k that guy!! 25 million dollar BONUS and he fires 900 fing people right before Christmas?! F him!! Karma, karma, karma 10 fold to this foolllll!!!
The Channel thing is hilarious to me. Anyone who pays $850 for an advent calendar KNOWING it has a bunch of crap in it – oh well
Chris Cuomo did what a brother would do. I’m not saying it’s right. I think CNN made a mistake firing him. IMO
If I where a CEO of a larger company and had to decide if 900 employees could stay with my company, the last thing I'd do is make it about me. I also would be more clear in the meeting what performance metrics where being addressed and I would address each person separately who was suspect of not working the billed hours. Time clock fraud is important being despite the fact the employees are lying about hours, if he lets that slide he WILL go to prison. So I understand it to a certain degree. There is really no good time of the year to lay someone off. There is also no good way to do it. You're always the bad guy.
But I feel like this gentleman is more concerned about his self image. To bad he didn't cry and to bad he anonymously brought up facts that should've been discussed immediately during that call.
The graphics you showed regarding the term latinx literally say that it doesn't bother a majority of people? Why are you and other white people throwing around your opinions on a term that doesn't bother most Hispanic/Latino people?
Not to mention that the practice of replacing "a" and "o" with "x" started in Latin America! It didn't originate in the US. Either you're poorly informed or intentionally dishonest.
In college I saw plenty of Hispanic people using the term Latinx in posters and such for Latinx based clubs or events. But yea I think Hispanic is gender neutral enough already.
Love you Philip, I have an odd request. I want to consume your content, but ya know little ears. I still kinda push that boundary here and there 😬 any way, I may just not know if this option exists, but can the bad words just get audibly censored for those blips? I could still watch while kiddos are in the room. 😁 thank you you beautiful bastards (I know, but still a "lesser" curse word somehow because it is a literal translation like that ass taking a piss over in the corner. Words are so weird. 😄)
I don’t care how long it’s going to take, you fire people individually, you talk to them about what the problem was. You DO NOT FIRE a mass group of people over a zoom call. It’s heartless and tacky. I’m at least glad he decided to lay off over fire (I’m assuming that this means they will get a severance). It’s true we don’t know what’s really going on with these employees, but it doesn’t take that much effort to be a better boss and person. I’m tired of people saying that if you give people a living wage, supplement salary so they have a living wage, or for that matter have people get disability get enough to actually covers that persons life and medical bills— that that people will be lazy and not work as hard. But nobody talks about executives and ceos that get millions of dollars and half ass their work. I don’t care what your doing, there is no way to earn a 25 million dollar bonus and (like so many) argue that a woman who has 3 jobs and is working 90 hours a week should be trying to figure out if she should pay for heat or feed her children.
Likening a chest infection to vaginitis is akin to insulting someone jos disabled to me. You’re health is the most important thing you have and always more important than an asshole like Jake Paul. Insulting someone who has their priorities in order, who’s sick makes you the Asshole.
Why do we keep seeing family members cover for eachother like this. I’m tired of hearing people say, “Oh he would never do that.” Having Ben in an abusive relationship where no one believed me when I told them what he was doing, I can tell you that you never really know someone and anyone is capable of anything. It’s one thing to emotionally support someone, it’s another to pull what Cuomo did. Or for that matter what Brian Laundrie’s family dod for him. The right thing to do in these situations is to turn the people in. If you help someone like this and they either hurt, assault t Murder someone again you are just as much at fault in my eyes.
Yeah I never heard a latino/a refer to themselves or anyone else as latinx and it's kind of like telling Spanish speakers that their language is incorrect
Colombian here, people that come up with latinx are racists
Latinx … same for BIPOC btw. Who came up with that?
