Emma Stone was apparently unimpressed with a joke Academy Awards host Jimmy Kimmel made about her Oscar-winning film Poor Things Sunday night.

Early in the evening, he had the 35-year-old actress in stitches when he commended her during his opening monologue. “Emma, you were so unbelievably great in Poor Things,” Kimmel said. “Emma played an adult woman with a brain of a child, like the lady (Republican Katie Britt) who gave the rebuttal to the State of the Union on Thursday night.”

But later on, after a clip of her film was played, Kimmel may have crossed a line when he joked, “Those were all the parts of Poor Things that we’re allowed to show on TV,” a clear dig at the film’s sexually explicit R-rated storyline.

Cameras quickly cut to Stone, where she seemed miffed by the remark as she rolled her eyes. She said something to her husband Dave McCary that some viewers watching at home thought might have been, “He’s a p****.”

People who have seen the film, for which Stone won best actress, said Kimmel’s characterization of the sexually explicit comedy-drama wasn’t off the mark.

“I mean, she was naked in about 90% of the movie, so he’s not lying,” one person commented on X, with another adding, “he’s not entirely wrong about available clips being limited.”

Others speculated that she had turned to McCary and said, “Oh, my God.”

Later, Stone, who won her first Oscar in 2017 for her performance in La La Land, seemed surprised that she was named the year’s best actress, beating Lily Gladstone, who was set to make history as the first Native American actress to win an Academy Award.

As she she took to the stage to claim her award, Stone gave a shout out to her daughter Louise by quoting a Taylor Swift lyric and revealed that she had suffered a wardrobe malfunction when the zipper on the back of her dress had come apart.

“My dress is broken!” Stone said, joking that it might have ripped as she was singing along to her La La Land co-star Ryan Gosling’s musical performance earlier in the broadcast: “I think it happened during I’m Just Ken, I’m pretty sure.”

When asked about the mint green Louis Vuitton gown during the E! red carpet pre-show, Stone told host Laverne Cox, “I don’t even know how to explain it.”

As she left the stage, she begged the crowd: “Don’t look at the back of my dress!”

But the two-time Oscar winner was able to get her ensemble fixed before she met reporters backstage.

“They sewed me back in,” Stone said afterwards (per PEOPLE). “Right when I came back, they sewed me back in, which was wonderful.”

And the actress maintained that it ripped during Gosling’s performance. “I generally do think I busted it during, I’m Just Ken. I was so amazed by Ryan and what he was doing, and that number just blew my mind. And I was right there, and I just was going for it, and, you know, things happen.”

Speaking about her role in Poor Things while accepting the Desert Palm Achievement Award for best actress at the Palm Springs Film Awards in January, Stone said it was unlike anything she’d ever read.

“I hope for many more years of the chance to take swings and to try new things and to keep this marathon going,” Stone added.

In addition to best actress for Stone, Poor Things took home Oscars for best makeup and hairstyling, best costume design and best production design.
